He holds a solid 3.47 ERA and 1.03 WHIP (1st in MLB) through over 155 innings. The Rays have been playing well, winning 4 of their last 5, and Eflin has been in good form as well. The Seattle Mariners take on the Tampa Bay Rays with Bryce Miller and Zach Eflin earning the starting nods on the bump. Tigers ML (-130) available at time of publishing playable at that number. I think I like the Tigers to grab an early lead and I also like the Tigers against the Chicago bullpen, so I’ll take the Tigers in this one. Neither bullpen is great, but the White Sox are near the bottom of the league. With these starters, it is seemingly inevitable that this one will end up in the bullpens for several innings.

I do, however, like that the Tigers can stack a few lefties into the lineup and likely give Scholtens some trouble. He hasn’t faced Detroit since joining the rotation, but the Tigers probably won’t blow him out of the water. The Sox will start Jesse Scholtens, and he has just not been very good and has given up 5 runs in 3 of his last 4 starts. There isn’t much way of knowing what to expect from him, but it helps that he draws the White Sox, who are mostly just running out the clock on the season. He is not a highly-touted prospect, and he has been fairly pedestrian in the minors. The Tigers will call up Sawyer Gipson-Long to make his MLB debut. The starting pitching in this one is a wild card.

Today’s game is hard to project, and it will most likely end up getting decided in the late innings, but I am giving the slight lean to the Tigers.

Targeting this game total is a backdoor way of targeting what should be a strong pitching performance from Suarez, and that is what I will be doing. I think the Phillies have a sizeable advantage in this game, and if I play their money line, I will probably pair it with something else on the board that I like. The Marlins are doing some sort of bullpen game, and those are always hard to project, but you can bet that they will use lefties against the top of this order as much as possible. I expect a similar outing today, and if he gives us anything close to that, this game total should be safe. It is, however, worth noting that he faced the Marlins in early August and turned in 6.1 strong innings of work, allowing only 1 run. Suarez has made only one appearance since returning from an IL stint, and he was on a limited pitch count.

Philadelphia should have a sizeable pitching advantage with Ranger Suarez throwing today.

I will be counting on the Miami bats to stay fairly quiet as I am playing the under. I think this game sets up nicely for the Phillies, but the price point is really expensive, so I am going to target the game total. Sunday’s rubber match has some weather threatening the game, so keep an eye on that before locking in any bets. These teams have split this series so far.
